In the Know: Adolescent understanding of DOHaD concepts

Much of our understanding of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease surrounds the importance of pre-conception through the First Thousand Days as windows of intervention and opportunities for education… but what does the next generation of parents know about DOHaD? A recent publication in the Journal of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease by Tohi and colleagues reviews studies of adolescent education on DOHaD, highlighting the necessity to enhance awareness of DOHaD topics, particularly among adolescents, to foster sustained healthy lifestyles. These studies find that effective community health promotion co-designed with adolescents, incorporating accurate and context-specific information, is essential for delivering empowering messages about DOHaD and promoting the health of future generations.
