Keynote Speaker Highlights: Susan Sumner and Maureen Black

s we look towards October for our Annual Meeting of the US DOHaD Society, we’re thrilled to share more about our keynote speakers who will be sharing their latest research and insights. To see all of our keynote speakers and their presentation schedules, visit our Annual Meetings page. Today, we wanted to highlight two of our speakers:

Susan Sumner, PhD is a Professor of Nutrition at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Nutrition Research Institute and the Director of Metabolomics and Exposome Laboratory. Her research focuses on untargeted metabolomics using a broad range of biological specimens to investigate how our nutrition, our environment, and exposure to chemicals affect adverse health outcomes. Her focus on precision medicine and nutrition has culminated in projects identifying biomarkers for cardiovascular disease and drug-induced liver injury, performing untargeted analysis of lifelong environmental exposures through the NIEHS Human Health Exposure Analysis Resource Program, and predicting individuals’ responses to dietary changes through the NIH Nutrition for Precision Health Consortium and All of Us. She will be presenting her work during the Metabolic Origins of Health Session on the Annual Meeting’s final day on October 16th.

Maureen Black, PhD is a Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and a licensed pediatric psychologist at the University of Maryland Baltimore where she has been studying how we can best promote child development and prevent disparities that threaten early development. Her work has influenced policy at a local and global scale as she has been instrumental in the development of the Global Scales for Early Development and the Nurturing Care Framework to support children’s development from pre-conception through adolescence. You’ll be able to learn more about her work in the Early Nutrition and Developmental Outcomes Session on October 15th.
