In the Know: Women’s Cardiovascular Health at Risk

A new article published in the American Journal of Heart and Circulatory Physiology, entitled “Women’s cardiovascular health at risk: an urgent call to protect the US biomedical research system and prevent setbacks in women’s health research,” addresses the persistent disparities in cardiovascular disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment with a call to action and a roadmap of actions to protect and advance women’s cardiovascular health research in the face of ongoing disruptions in federal funding.

As a society dedicated to understanding the underlying risks leading to chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease and identifying and supporting those disproportionately affected by the burden of environmental exposures and early life adversity, DOHaD scientists can incorporate Goulopoulou and colleagues’ framework into their own work to continue advocating for women’s health and resist harmful disruptions in biomedical research.
